GRASSROOTS FILM MAKES MARK IN ARIZONA
DVD Release May 15th, 2008
Filmed in Heber-Overgaard Arizona, "Convenience", a VerticalBlu Film, is releasing its first film on DVD May 15th 2008. Based on life in a small town, "Convenience" was filmed in one week and on a $1500 budget with local actors and soundtrack from local musicians. This full feature film was submitted to Sundance and over 30 film festivals across the country. Sales from the DVD will supply the budget of their 2008/2009 film, "Life In Transit."
"Being an independent film is not what it used to be," says Director
Daniel Gourley. Sundance Film Festival has now become commercialized to
the point that true independent film makers are now at a disadvantage
with limited budget and talent. It is because of this that VerticalBlu
Film Co. is raising awareness about "Grassroots" Film Making.
Arizona State University, having an acclaimed film program, selected
"Convenience" for a student screening this past March. "Convenience"
drew attention from the University's students as well as local interest
through Myspace.
VerticalBlu is a movement based on the belief that great movies don't
need to come from Hollywood. By joining together our skills, resources
and efforts we can create movies that speak to our souls, our lives and
our communities. We are looking to build awareness here in the valley
by building an online film community dedicated to making films in
Arizona. We need our local community to support us in this effort by
providing awareness, locations and financial support.
